I am sure we all have plenty of places to give our money. And I am sure that I want to keep this blog free for anyone. A few people have decided to give money to the blog, which has caused me to think about what to do with any gifts that come my way.
New subscribers will be asked if they want to have a paid subscription. Old subscribers can decide whenever they want to give to what I am dubbing the “writing ministry.”
My thought is that at the end of a month, I will choose a charity to support with whatever money came in, even if it was just $10. How does that sound? I will share with the subscribers where that money goes. This will be a way to let you all know about some charities that I really love.
As I think about it, the only downside is that I receive money here on Substack as if for a business. That means the donations I make will be tax-deductible for me and not for you. But I hope that our giving does not always have to be tax-deductible.
Once again, this is totally free. And you are free to give or not. Maybe in the future I will be able to do some content that is just for paid subscribers. But that future is not yet!
Our March earnings will go to the Restorative Freedom Initiative, which helps those who were formally incarcerated return to society. Their work is incredible, and you can find out more about it here:

RFI supports My Father’s House in Colorado and Living with Convictions in North Carolina. Here are videos about those two places:
Feel free, of course, to learn about these charities and donate to them yourself. I am just saying what I am going to do with the money that has been pledged through subscriptions in this month of March.
We’ll see where this goes in the future. I do not plan (or need) to make money from writing, but I do like to make connections for people. Thanks to all those who subscribed, whether paid or not, and I look forward to exploring with you the via experientiae, the way of experience.
