Hi all!
Just a quick note to thank everyone who opted for a paid subscription to my Substack. Everything is completely free here, but I am happy to pass on the support of readers to a different charity each month. Maybe eventually there will be a special “paid” section. We’ll see…
The first month, I donated to The Restorative Freedom Initiative. This is a project to help people who were incarcerated integrate back into the community. They were very thankful for the donation and interested in the blog.
This month, I am going to donate the proceeds from paid subscriptions to Andre House. Started in 1984 by Holy Cross priests, Andre House is a ministry in the Dorothy Day Catholic Worker tradition. As many of you might have noticed, if you have been reading the blog, I have been rather inspired by Dorothy lately, so it comes as no surprise that I would want to support something connected to her vision and spirituality.
A friend of mine just last night spoke about how meaningful her service at Andre House has been. She finds that all kinds of people come together to serve their brothers and sisters in need, making space for conversation among people that would never happen elsewhere. Another friend commented that it is often in front of the big questions of life that we find ourselves more united, maybe not so much in our answers to those question but in the recognition that the human heart is made up of these questions and is the same in all of us.
I am excited to reconnect to Andre House after many years. I used to go down there often when I was a seminarian and have not been back in a long time. I encourage those of you in the Phoenix area to check it out.
And thank you to all those who have offered paid subscription. It is a simple way for us to do some good through this writing ministry. Please subscribe (for free or paid) if you haven’t yet. I am so happy to be writing and sharing this “way of experience” with you all!
